             "
Writing is not a competitive sport."

                                        ~ Thomas Christopher Greene

Who are we?

Professional Writers of Prescott, also known as Prescott Writers, is a network of published and non-published writers and editors who live in the "Quad-Cities" - Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Dewey/Humboldt - and in the Verde Valley - Sedona, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Cornville, and Clarkdale - in Yavapai County, Arizona.

Among our 75 - 100 annual members are writers of all persuasions and genres:
poets, novelists, short story writers, journalists, freelancers and essayists, memoirists
and creative nonfiction writers, technical and grant writers, and writers of fiction and nonfiction for children and young adults. We aim for the highest expression of our
craft and are dedicated to sharing our expertise with less experienced writers.

   What do we do?

PWP sponsors monthly speaker programs and member networking meetings and critique groups. We co-sponsor a writing workshop with Sharlot Hall Museum at the annual Prescott Book Festival. Many of our members attend local Meet Your Author events, and other book-related sales and celebrations in Arizona and outside the state. Our First Annual PWP Writing Contest debuts in May 2008.

PWP's community outreach activities include mentoring young writers, appearing at local school district Career Day events, judging entries in the annual Whipple Voices Writing Project sponsored by the local Veteran's Administration, volunteering for work detail at the Prescott Book Festival, and supporting literacy activities as well as local and regional poets' and writers' activities.

Membership

The annual $15 fee entitles members to many benefits: monthly programs and networking with publishing industry speakers, the monthly PWP newsletter, writing submission, contest, marketing and event updates via the PWP Google groups listserv or PWP Forum page, member announcements, posting personal website links, member bios and member book reviews on the PWP Features web page, and early registration for PWP-sponsored events.

For more information about PWP membership, e-mail the PWP Membership Chair, or download the membership application.
