PWP members or non-members looking for a critique group, forming a new critique group, or any groups looking for new members, may e-mail the Webmaster and/or the Newsletter Editor with relevant information to post on the PWP website and in PWP newsletter.

 

• August 2008: Prescott / Hawaii resident and author Marie Ming is interested in sharing mailed hardcopy novel and short story critiques. Her specialty is sci-fi, but she is open to reading other genres. E-mail Marie for more information.

• August 2008: PWP Member Pearlene Patterson is looking for a critique group. Her interests are poetry and short stories. E-mail her for more information.

• August 2008: Barb Hahn is trying to start a new writing community in the Verde Valley. To see if the High Desert Writers Association is a go, give her a call at 928-634-9228.
  
   
• August 2008: Stasis Group (Prescott) - This crit group accepts published or non-published writers of fiction/short fiction, any genre. The group meets every other Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Participants read member chapters or stories during the two weeks between meetings, and give oral critiques during meetings. Writers will provide each member a copy of either a short story or a novel chapter for comments and corrections. PWP members and non-members welcome. For details, e-mail John Rust. • August 2008: The Chino Valley critique group moderated by Mary Ann Kozel that met on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Country West Mobile Home Park clubhouse has disbanded. Any Chino Valley/Paulden area writers interested in forming an ongoing non-moderated fiction/nonfiction group not dependent upon a leader, call Kate at 928-636-0677 or e-mail Webmaster@prescottwriters.com with ideas for a meeting venue and schedule.
  
   

• June 2008: Willma Gore, leader of writer workshops for High Hopes of Sedona, Village Writers, and Serious Scribes, announces the Summer 2008 schedule:

  High Hopes of Sedona (openings available in this group) - Meets on the 1^st and 3^rd Thursdays at 10 a.m., Worm Books & Music in the Village of Oak Creek Outlet Mall.  (No meetings on the 5^th Thursday).
  
  High Hopes of Sedona evening meeting (openings in this group) - Meets on the 1^st and 3^rd Wednesdays at 7 p.m., Sedona Winds, 405 Jacks Canyon Rd. VOC, Card Room mezzanine floor.  

  Village Writers (no openings at this time)  -Meets on the 2^nd and 4^th Thursdays at 10 a.m., Worm Books & Music, Outlet Mall.

  Village Writers afternoon group (two openings in this group) - Meets the 2^nd and 4^th Thursdays 2 p.m., in my apartment, #138, Sedona Winds, 405 Jacks Canyon Rd., VOC. Note: 2 p.m. is a change from the former time of 1 p.m.

  Serious Scribes (no openings at this time) - Meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Sedona Winds Library. This group is for those who have published books and are reading chapters of new books in progress.

  Format for meetings: My main focus in these groups is to help members get published and to be paid for their words in shorter formats. However, we are happy to hear chapters of books (adult or juvenile) in progress. Members read in order of sign-in with first-timers reading last.  It is helpful, but not required, that the author bring two copies of his/her work. One copy goes to me.  I will either read it aloud or listen as author reads--optional for author.  (When I have a copy in front of me I can more easily make grammar/punctuation/spelling corrections—if needed--than I can in listening only.)

  Willma asks that each person bring $2 per meeting to help cover her costs of printer ink and paper.

  All present are invited to comment on each work read. I make marketing suggestions, offer comments on focus and title. Some members bring poetry from time to time, and we are happy to hear it.  Although I have sold and have published some poetry,  I do not consider myself capable of judging modern poetry—but, as with all writing, we are happy to hear it.
  
  Note for all groups: We never meet on the 5^th Wednesday or Thursday in the few months of the year these occur.

• May 2008: The Monday Critique group for writers of children's literature meeting every other Monday at 6 pm at Prescott College's Library conference room has been put on hold until further notice. Contact Michelle Tissot for more info or call 928-710-9064.
  
   

• January 2008: Sheryl Tilley, a former PWP President, has suspended the Wednesday evening children's critique group at 7 p.m. at the Starbucks in downtown Prescott. However, she organizes N. AZ networking gatherings for SCBWI members. Future meetings will be posted on the PWP Events page. • January 2008: "Writers' Workshop", a read-and-critique group inspired by Willma Gore's guidelines, meets the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, 5:30 p.m. at the Prescott Library. E-mail Leota Hoover if you're interested in participating.
