Agnes Franz Award for Creative Writing

The Professional Writers of Prescott (PWP) presented the $500 Agnes Franz Award for outstanding creative writing in the Yavapai College Library on May 7 and on May 27 in the Founders Suite of the Prescott Public Library. The award winner, Yavapai College student and PWP member Jeannie Leighton, and the two runners-up, Alex Erickson and Catherine Miller Hahn, read their winning entries at the meetings.

Entries were solicited from current students enrolled in Yavapai College’s creative writing program, and PWP members Agnes Franz and Chris Hoy selected the winning entry.

Long-time PWP member Agnes Franz began her career as a newspaper reporter, briefly edited a multi-language magazine, spent most of her life in advertising, and served as a Prescott SCORE business counselor. She's the author of “Historic Prescott, An Illustrated History of Prescott & Yavapai County,” now in its second printing. Her latest book, “Smirk: Over 1000 Smiles for Your Face,” is a fine humor resource for writers and speakers.
